The IM GENDER Gender Unit opened its doors over twenty years ago and has become an international benchmark in Gender Reassignment Surgery. IM GENDER has cared for more than 3,000 trans people who have decided to carry out some treatment or surgical procedure at the Unit, whether genital affirmation surgery – vaginoplasty, phalloplasty, metoidioplasty -, body surgery – mastectomy, breast augmentation, feminizing liposculpture, among others -, facial surgery – facial feminization, thyroplasty, masculinization of features, etc.- or other plastic surgery procedures.

HISTORY OF IM GENDER

In 2002, IM GENDER was born out of the need to offer a specialized team to a group of people whose needs and demands had been ignored and neglected by a large portion of the medical community, either due to lack of knowledge of the treatment or due to inadequacy of its application.

The medical team at the IM CLINIC Gender Unit began treating trans people in 1999 (the year of its creation). At that time, Dr. Ivan Mañero had already specialized in genital-affirming surgery in response to the requests of some of his patients, who realized that they were not receiving the care they deserved at other centers. In 2002, given the number of trans people seeking care from our team, it was decided to create a specialized unit to offer them personalized care and service.

Today, more than 20 years later, the Gender Unit, which has become an international benchmark in Gender-Affirming Surgery, takes a new leap forward by becoming IM GENDER.
IM GENDER brings together a team of more than 30 professionals, offering more services and in more disciplines, always with the sensitivity, commitment, and excellence that characterizes the IM CLINIC Gender Unit.

He has been performing and perfecting this and all types of surgeries for trans people for over two decades, both domestically and internationally.
His professionalism has led him to international recognition and in-demand, participating and moderating events at industry conferences. From the beginning, he advocated for specialized and sensitive care for trans people. However, in the early days, he had to deal with other professionals and a lack of understanding from society who didn’t understand why a specialist like him would treat this type of person.

A pioneer in certain gender reassignment surgical techniques, Dr. Ivan Mañero has collaborated with various government agencies to ensure that these types of procedures are included in our country’s public health service. This will allow him to offer greater and better care to trans people who require it.
